Carolina Panthers coach Sean Graham has been fired following his team’s 34-17 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Graham was expected to be retained as head coach but that has not happened.
Graham had not spoken publicly about his future with the Panthers.
Carolina’s 3-2 record over the past three seasons has come under fire after a number of players, including quarterback Cam Newton, have struggled during the past two seasons.
Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman has been the team’s most vocal player on the issues of player safety and discipline, and he was expected this week to step aside.
Gettlemen had been the subject of scrutiny for his handling of a domestic violence case involving Carolina’s first-round pick in 2012, who was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapons.
Carolina was 0-8 against Denver last season, and Graham was widely seen as the person responsible for the Panthers’ poor performance.
