How the Falcons’ coaching staff is working to maximize potential free agent running back contracts has been a constant source of intrigue in the coaching market.
That’s no different with the team’s 2017 free agency class, which has a combined $8.1 million in guaranteed money tied to their contract status.
The Falcons have had some of the most high-profile running backs in the NFL, and one of the more intriguing scenarios that could unfold this offseason is the coaching staff working out a new contract for one of those players.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Falcons have a good shot at securing the services of the free agent runner, and according to sources close to the situation, that includes former New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara.
The former Saints and Atlanta Falcons standout has been linked to the Falcons in the past, and the source familiar with the situation said the team is trying to land Kamara to shore up a running back position in Atlanta.
According a source familiar, the team has also expressed interest in running back Mark Ingram and the Saints could be willing to match any offer the Falcons can make for Kamara, but the Falcons are not expected to offer him more than the $7 million they’re expected to receive from the Saints in the coming weeks.
The Atlanta Falcons could make an offer for RB Alvin K. Kamara (via Adam Schein)The Falcons’ 2016 free agent class had a combined total of $8 million in guarantees tied to its contract status, according to ESPN.
The team has a good chance at securing a running backs contract, and it appears the team would be willing or able to match the $6 million they receive from New Orleans for Kamala.
But that’s not the only possible scenario for Kamalanas contract, according an ESPN source.
According the source, the Atlanta Falcons are currently negotiating a deal with former New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw.
Bradshaw is also a free agent, and ESPN’s Darren Rovell reported on Monday that the Falcons were in talks to sign him to a new deal before his contract expired this offseason.
Bradshaws deal expires after this season.
Brad Shaw is also still on the market and could sign with the Falcons, according ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (via ESPN).
Bradshaw was the most prolific rusher in NFL history, with 7,066 yards and 26 touchdowns in 12 seasons.
He is a free agents departure after this year, and could still be available if the Falcons don’t re-sign him.
Brad shaws contract expires after 2017.
